Sep. 30th, 2007 @ 09:05 am Ace replacements for CT components
My last "I don't know my mods" post was answered quite well, so I'm here to bug you with another one.

As I'm too lazy to write any mods myself, I only have these lowbrow questions for the community.

In my continuing quest to get more Ace mods and fewer "other stuff" mods, I have questions about replacing pieces of CT_Mod. I've found I don't actually use all that much OF CT_Mod anyway, but I'm lazy and copy the entire thing into the addons directory, so cutting things out would definitely be good.

CT_MailMod: I hear BulkMail and Postal are both potentials, here. Which is better? Which is worse? Why? I also see Express Mail and Postman listed as alternatives, but I haven't seen anyone recommend either. Anyone used them? Like them? Don't like them?

CT_MapMod: I don't use much of its functionality, but I do use a bit. It seems like Cartographer is the obvious replacement.

CT_BarMod / CT_BottomBar: On this, I have no clue. I don't do a lot with my interface, and I'm not interested in doing a lot. However, the two dragons have to go away. I put my chat windows on the side of the bars and they don't fit with the dragons. Deleting the XP bar and letting me move things down would be nice, too. See my boring, lame UI here. Easy to set up / figure out are pluses.

Thanks for any knowledge you can share!

Edit 2:55PM CDT: I've been using CT_Mod since before I bought my current system. I have a Mac Pro and a 30" Cinema Display. I'd get 30-60 FPS (which, with the system drawing over 4 million pixels, isn't too bad, IMO). I disabled all of CT_Mod, replacing the components I cared about with Bartender, Cartographer, and Postal. I was just seeing 90 - 112 FPS. Sometimes it would drop to 60.

I'll wave a flag for Postal here -- it's very clean and simple, and I don't think I could possibly go back to CT_Mail now. Buffalo is an excellent CT_Buff replacement, also.

I switched from CT_Mail to Postal. I didn't like it at first, because I liked being able to attach and mail a whole bunch of items to one person at at time, and with Postal, I need to alt-click to send each item. However, in 2.3, we'll be able to attch 12 items to each email.

I'm still using CT_MapMod, though it's throwing errors now constantly. I suppose I'll have to go to Cartographer or Gatherer. I mainly use it to write notes for where items are, to make them easier to find, like all the gas clouds I've seen for my and my husband's engineers.

I use Bartender3...I never really used CT's bar mods.

I'm a little late here, looks like you already got the ace mods. But anyway! I'm chiming in regardless.

I love postal. It makes sending mail SO MUCH EASIER. And it's very easy to remember the modifiers.

I have tried Bartender3, but I found it easier to do keybindings with Bongos2, so I went back to that.

Cartographer is a fantastic map mod and everyone should use it. There.

Interesting bit about keybindings. As I don't tend to use them, that probably won't be a problem for me. I was slightly annoyed at Bartender's lack-of-good-overlap... That doesn't make much sense.

I had things set up in CT_Mod so that the "Class bar" or whatever you want to cal it (has druid forms, paladin auras, warrior stances, etc.) is overlaped with another bar. I just didn't put anything in that area of the "other" bar and I could still click on the things in the class bar fine. That wasn't the case with Bartender3. Stil, it wasn't much of a problem - I just moved the bar out of the way, and moved the spells over so they were basically back in their original places.

i switched from bartender to bongoes2 and i like it much much more. more stuff you can do with it, though if anyone can tell me how to stop it "clipping" to invisible squares that i can't see that would be great! sometimes it's like "no, i don't want it 2 inches to the left of where i just dragged it, gdmt".
