Nov. 14th, 2007 @ 12:11 am Addon question
So, I've been meaning to trash my old UI and build one up from Blizzard's base to suit my needs, and I thought to myself that patch 2.3 was a great excuse to do so. This is it so far. Currently using ag_UnitFrames, aUF_Layouts, Baggins, Bartender3, Cartographer, CyCircled, Elkano's Buff Bars, Fubar [Ammo, Bag, Clock, Money, Performance, and Recommended Zone], Prat, and Quartz, but it's not done yet. Still a few things I'd like to add, and most of them I know where I'll be getting them. There's one that I don't though, and I'm not even sure what search terms to use when looking for it.

As you can see in the screenshot I linked above, the bottom of my screen is dominated with chat windows and my buttons. They have 0% transparency, as I pretty much avoid transparency whenever possible. What that means, though, is there's stuff happening behind that portion of my screen that I don't get to see. Admittedly, it's not too important what is happening back there, but what I'd like to do is set up a fake widescreen, I guess. Have it so that it starts above my chat logs, if that makes sense.

So here's my question: Is there an addon that can do that, and if so, where I can nab it? Ace-compliant is preferred, but if it isn't, I can accept that.

Thanks for your time.

Edit: Found what I was looking for in Aperture. Did what I wanted in a very easy way, and as a bonus, it was an Ace addon. Much thanks to all who responded, and sneaky especially for recommending it.

What you're looking for is called a viewport. Some (like Skinnier) offer a pseudo-viewport in that they don't actually scale the screen--they just give you a solid black bottom/top bar.

I believe CT had a module for viewports. Beyond that, you'd have to find someone more versed in current Ace addons.

Skinner (not Skinnier) actually has a viewport option, as well as just the black bar across the bottom.

I recommend Sunn Viewport Art to change the viewport like that - there are others, but they're either a bit buggy in my experience, or part of a larger compilation (eg CT_mod) that you may not want.

Sunn will allow you to set art on the black bars, or give them a single solid color. And it's Ace2-compliant; you should find it at files.wowace.com.
